Beamtime at FEL lines is limited; therefore carrying out preparatory and complementary experiments at CNR beamlines is essential to ensure an efficient use by the CNR and more generally Italian scientific community of the new pulsed sources. Therefore, also at the XRD-1 line of the CNR at Elettra CNR will plan time-resolved studies using UV, Raman and IR “in cristallo” spectroscopies. In particular, at the XRD-1 experimental station it will be possible to conduct time-resolved pump-and-probe experiments and single crystal diffraction measurements, which will be preliminary and complementary to the development of similar experiments on FEL-FERMI (Trieste) or SPARC-INFN (Frascati). Preliminary action required for these upgrades to the XRD-1 line at Elettra (Trieste) will be the provision of the beamline itself, which currently meets only partially the safety criteria necessary for the use of this infrastructure by the international user. Thanks to the new time-resolved potential, the XRD-1 line will be the access infrastructure to the national and international users of EUROFEL interested in conducting time-resolved pump-and-probe experiments on crystals of biological macromolecules.
