RESEARCH LINES

The main research lines in progress are summarized below:

CRYSTALLOGRAPHIC METHODOLOGIES  For the Development of Innovative Methodologies in the X-ray diffraction of crystal structure, applied to bio-crystallography, structural chemistry, materials science, nanomedicine and nanotechnology.

POLYCRYSTALLINE MATERIALS, NANOMATERIALS AND BIOMATERIALS OF TECHNOLOGICAL INTEREST  For the study and characterization of materials with applications in various areas (pharmaceuticals, cultural goods, electronics, sensory, forensic science, anti-counterfeiting, nutraceuticals, cosmetics etc) and new intelligent multi-functional biomaterials for applications in tissue engineering and drug delivery.

MOLECULAR DESIGN OF NEW DRUGS AND DIAGNOSTICS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW BIOMOLECULES  such as drugs and diagnostics, using biology and structural chemistry techniques as well as studying structure-activity relationships for molecules with different complexities of biological and biotechnological interest.

INNOVATIVE SENSORS AND BIOSENSORS  For the development of sensors and biosensors, with spanning applications from the protection of consumers, which determines the xenobiotic, pathogenic substances and the traceability of food components along the food chain to quality control of products and processes and safeguard of the health from producer to consumer.

ARCHAEOMETRY   For measurements through RX on archaeological finds and objects of cultural interest in order to characterize them and provide information on the materials used for their construction or to identify their origin. Measures are also taken for forensic purposes to determine the authenticity of the objects. Study of new fixed and portable instruments for diagnostic investigations in excavation areas or on monuments / buildings.

ICT AND ANTI DIGITAL DIVIDE  It develops technological platforms for the management and support of internal and external activities of the institute. It plays a role of advice and support to schools, public bodies and local authorities for the resolution of problems deriving from the lack of digital telecommunication infrastructures. It offers IT services to public and private companies.
