Scattarella Francesco

Bari

Graduated in Physics in 2008 at the Physics Department of Bari.

PhD in Physics in 2012 at the University of Bari with a dissertation in x-ray phase contrast and interferometry for biomedical applications supervised by prof. Bellotti. The work has been conducted in collaboration with INFN of Bari and the Insitute of Cristallography of the CNR of Bari.

From 2012 to 2015 I worked for a company (Masmec Biomed) in the R&D division for a project, with the University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome, devoted to the development of new biomedical tools for 3D and 4D navigation based on multimodal image fusion.

From 2015 to 2020 I worked for CNR in several research projects related to the development of new algorithms and software for data reduction, analysis and processing of x-ray diffraction images and electron microscopies.

From 2021 to 2023 I had a fixed-term position as a Researcher at Physics Department of the University of Bari in the field of Quantum Optical Technologies.

From November 2023 I’m a Research Technologist at the Institute of Cristallography – CNR of Bari.

Research interests:

  • image processing & analysis (biomedical, industrial, materials science fields);
  • correlated quantum imaging;
  • design and development of image analysis software.

Since 2009 I have been involved in the study and development of new methodologies for the treatment and analysis of images coming from different research fields (biomedical, industrial, materials sciences) focusing on the development of new algorithms and their implementation in software dedicated to data reduction and analysis. I have gained experience in numerous general image processing and analysis techniques (deconvolution, denoise, co-registration, etc.).

I carried out my research activity in the Quantum Optics group of the Department of Physics of Bari, mainly dealing with the development of new algorithms for the analysis of images obtained through the technique called image correlation plenoptics (CPI).

Currently, I have a permanent position as a Research Technologist at the Institute of Cristallography of the CNR (Bari).
