2015 – 2017: Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Florence, Department of Chemistry on project entitled: Design and synthesis of peptides for immunological studies.

2011 – 2013 Post-doctoral fellow at the University of Florence, Department of Chemistry on project entitled: Chemical characterization of proteinaceous pictorial material by UPLC-AccQTag and proteomic techniques.

2009 – 2015  Collaboration contract with Espikem S.r.l on the project entitled: Design, synthesis and commercialization of peptides and their analogues of pharmaceutical interest, biomedical and cosmeceutical.

2001 – 2009 Post-doctoral fellow at the University of Florence, Department of Chemistry on  project entitled: Synthesis of modified peptides in the context of Plasma filtration and immunoadsorbtion.

1999 – 2001 Scholarship at the division of Nuclear Medicine Department of Istituto Europeo di Oncologia (Milano) on the project: Synthesis of new biotin derivatives containing azamacrociclic chelating Agents.

Education and Training

2005 PhD in Chemistry at the University of Florence, Department of Chemistry with a thesis titled: Solid Phase Peptide Synthesis. Evaluation and optimization of different synthetic procedures.

1998 Master Degree in Chemistry with a thesis titled: Solid phase cyclization of peptides containing histidine by anchoring the imidazole ring to trityl resins”.

1998 Qualification to practice as a chemist at the  University of Florence and registration in the national register from  2003 to 2016.

Synthesis of new biotin-DOTA conjugate for pretargeted antibody-guided radioimmunotherapy and transfer of the technology to Sigma Tau for the pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Strong know-how in peptide synthesis, in solution and in solid phase, by manual, semi-automatic and automatic instrumentations, conventional and microwave-mediated, by a continuous flow or batch technology. Peptide-based therapeutics and diagnostics from native or modified sequences to increase biological activity (post-translational modifications, conformational restriction through cyclization). Peptide conjugation to oligosaccharides and porphyrins for neurodegenerative diseases. Modified peptides as biomarkers of autoimmune diseases (multiple sclerosis, celiac disease, etc.).

Immunoenzymatic assays and proteomic analysis for characterization of proteinaceous pictorial material. Determination of the amino acid profile from peptide and protein hydrolysates, biological fluids, natural extracts.

Collaboration with many pharmaceutical companies and research centers for the custom design and  synthesis of non-natural amino acids, peptide molecules and their analogues of biomedical interest.

University-industry technology transfer for the industrial scale-up of GMP grade peptides as drugs (Eptifibatide) in the context of PeptFarm, a joint laboratory between the Department of Chemistry of the University of Florence and the Fabbrica Italiana Sintetici (FIS) of Vicenza.

Strong experience in chromatographic techniques (HPLC, UHPLC, SPE, Flash, GC) coupled with different detectors  such as MS and UV, for the characterization and purification of biomolecules on small and large scale.

 

Teaching  skills

2013 – 2017 Teaching assistant in Organic Chemistry (Chim/06) at the University of Florence, Department of Chemistry.

2010-2014 Teaching at Tuscan Chemists association: HPLC, GC, UPLC, MS analysis methods.

2011-2012 Teaching position at University of Florence: Sampling techniques and main analysis techniques.

From 2004 to 2007 Educational and dissemination activities in the educational laboratories “Open Lab a guide to scientific knowledge”.

Training of numerous national and international students. From 2006 to date  co-supervisor of 23 of undergraduate and graduate students from the degree in Chemistry, CTF, Biotechnology and Food Sciences. Tutor for Erasmus students and Italian students for school-work projects. Training courses on peptide synthesis for researchers.
