Campi Gaetano

Roma

Mi occupo di fisica della materia e di sistemi complessi, con un interesse centrale per il ruolo costruttivo del disordine nella funzionalità di molti sistemi naturali e artificiali. Una parte significativa della mia attività di ricerca è dedicata ai materiali quantistici, in particolare ai superconduttori ad alta temperatura critica, dove gli elettroni non si comportano come entità indipendenti ma formano stati collettivi capaci di propagarsi senza resistenza. Per studiare questi sistemi utilizzo tecniche avanzate di diffrazione e spettroscopia con radiazione X di sincrotrone, integrando l’analisi sperimentale con strumenti della scienza della complessità, della fisica statistica, della statistica spaziale e della teoria delle reti.

Nel corso degli anni ho applicato questo approccio a diversi sistemi complessi: oltre ai superconduttori ad alta temperatura critica [1,2], ho investigato nuovi dispositivi elettronici composti da eterostrutture artificiali nanoscopiche per controllare l’interazione tra stati elettronici distinti [3,4], e sistemi biologici fuori dall’equilibrio, come la mielina, in cui fluttuazioni strutturali nanometriche generano forme di disordine funzionale [5,6].

Il mio lavoro si colloca quindi all’intersezione tra fisica, chimica e biologia [1–7], con l’obiettivo di comprendere come il disordine, lungi dall’essere una limitazione, possa diventare una risorsa fondamentale per l’emergere di nuove proprietà e funzionalità nei sistemi naturali e artificiali.
